Thank you for volunteering
As the cold and regular post-holiday routine remind us that the next few months are some of the toughest in the rescue world, it’s important to remember to show appreciation for all those who give of their time and energy to help nonprofit rescues and shelters achieve their mission. Animal welfare volunteers are a special breed that rarely to never seek out accolades or thanks but that is exactly why their hard work and efforts should not go unnoticed. The path of gratitude needs to travel in both directions. The thank you for a job well done needs to be extended to the volunteer who knits kitty pads, to the treasurer who manages the scarce resources, to the founder who’s vision brought you all together in the first place to have a positive impact of the lives of the precious animals in your care. The quick little note to point out a treasured special trait or action, or the photo with good job sharpied on it and posted on the bulletin board is an easy reminder of the value each individual brings to the group and that without the efforts of all, the mission would be lost. There are times when living in the animal welfare world is unbearably tough yet the mission and the love and appreciation in the eyes of the sweet souls in our charge help to keep us going; let’s remember to include showing that love and appreciation to each other as part of the mission too. Thank you, thank you, and thank you!
